If you have never been to a nail salon in Japan, or somewhere that is not familiar to you, you may be worried about how everything goes. Here is all you need to expect from getting to the salon to getting your nails done. Today I am showing my monthly treatment to you guys.
1. Search the location of your nail salon.
Most salons are in buildings that look the same as the building next door. Make sure you have the name of the building and know which floor it is. In Japan Google Maps work correctly most of the time. My salon is located in an apartment in Shinsaibashi area (downtown area in Osaka).
2. Tell your name at the entrance.
When you arrive at the salon, please tell your name at the reception. If you would like to go to the bathroom, ask them to use it now because the treatment takes 1.5-2 hours.
3. Get the treatment started.
If you have some ideal images/designs, please show them to your nail technician. This time, I did not have any preference for the design. After a small conversation, I decided to have French nails. First, they care for the cuticles and shape your nails. During this time, you can tell them what you would like to get even if it is not specific. Color, nuance, character etc... In my case I mostly left it to her, besides the shape of my nails.
4. Enjoy chatting with them.
Even if you are not confident about your Japanese speaking, you can tell them some words below during the treatment. They understand yes and no in English.
We always talk about what has been happening to both of us recently.
From you:
Kawaii desu. (It is cute.)
Kore ga ii desu. (I want this.)
Itai desu. (It hurts.)
Chigau no ga ii desu. (I want another one.)
From the nail technician:
Ugokanaide kudasai. (Please do not move.)
Daijoubu desuka? (Is it okay?)
Kore de ii desuka? (Are you okay with this?)
5. Check your nails all the time
When everything is finished, please check your nails for any issues that you are not satisfied with. If you do not have it, the technician will wipe your hands with a hot towel and apply cuticle oils to them. The duration was approximately 1.5h.
Ask if you would like to add more colors or any requests.
※The salon only accepts by cash. If you do not have enough cash, you can withdraw at an ATM at any convenience store.
